The Wiki widget is not ’minimising’ to its original small size when the search box is cleared. It used to minimise when I it the ’esc’ key.

I am using the Wikiperia Widget in Os X 10.5.2 on a MacBook Pro.

Andrew April 25, 2008 3:33am

First off - great widget - best thing since sliced bread. I have one little glitch though that I wouldn’t mind fixed - when i search something and mispell the term, wikipedia comes up with the page saying it couldn’t find anything, it gives a search box to try again, in this widget, that search box doesn’t work.

OL (also written lol or Lol) is a common element of Internet slang used, historically, on Usenet but now widespread to other forms of computer-mediated communication, and even spread to face-to-face communication. It is an abbreviation for "laughing out loud"[1][2] or "laugh out loud".[3] "LOL" is one of many initialisms for expressing bodily reactions, in particular laughter, as text, including initialisms such as "ROTFL" ("roll(ing) on the floor laughing"),[4][5] a more emphatic expression of laughter, and "BWL" ("bursting with laughter"), above which there is "no greater compliment" according to Magid.[6] (Other unrelated expansions include the less common "lots of luck" or "lots of love".)[7] or "laugh out loud",[3]

Hi (I guess this is where to leave a message to developpers?) well let’s hope you get this one :)!

I’ve been using this widget for a little while now, and i find it very practical, and useful, so very nice to have on your dashboard!

But, I’m actually running leo pard (the "pre"version) and this widget doesn’t seem to work no longer :(… my guess is that it, obviously seems to com from the platform (leopard), but maybe the widget has a flaw i don’t know…

let’s hope someone will read that and fix this :)

great work anyway—!

Dear Wikipedia widget authors!

While browsing the net, I have found your wikipedia widget, and I’m interested in localizing it into Hungarian.

I’m László Rostás, and in my spare time I work as a translator and a site administrator of machonosit.hu portal. The goal of our portal is the translation of software products and make them available to Hungarian users. For more information of us, please have a look at our English About Us page at http://www.machonosit.hu/english-2

We would like to translate the widget you made. I’ve already made a beta localization, but I have a problem:
at the language codes I couldn’t add hungarian. Please answer to info at machonosit.hu

Hey wikipedia - your widget is very useful and it goes without saying that your website is one of those sites that is used by each and every one of us every five minutes. My only concern, and probably everyone else’s, is your progress on making sure that your articles are factual. That is all. Thanks again.

webisodic May 31, 2007 2:28pm

Video content featuring multimple episodes, hosted on the internet. First coined by Allan Rust and Scott Nankivel, of Ardent Entertainment with the launch of "Chasing This Happiness", a webisodic situated around the making of the feature film, "This Happiness", due to release in 2009.

Ben May 30, 2007 7:13am

Message to Lindsay, The "edit" feature is apart of Wikipedia itself rather than the widget. The option to “Edit Wikipedia” is more to reinforce the reliability of Wikipedia rather than to degrade it, as it is an ’open’ encyclopaedia created by anyone who volunteers to contribute.. I have found most information is reliable, and no less biased than the majority of Internet content, (or teachers for that matter).

My response: Thanks Ben, well said.

Ben May 30, 2007 7:02am

Its great since i use Wipda so much, If i could ask one thing for future versions, could it be made possible that the widget remembers the window size you make the widget in order to view a full page wiki article once you have searched.

Like with the supplied Dictionary widget with OSX when i search for a word definition the window resizes to the same size as i had the window the last time i looked at a definition.

For the wiki wiget in particular, a full-screen memory would be useful, simply reducing the widget window again by clicking the (x) next to the word that had been entered into the search bar.

My response: The widget should remember the size you stretch it to. Try deleting the preferences file and reloading the widget (Cmd-R). Each widget instance remembers its size individually though, so if you close and reopen the widget it will default to the standard size.

i like this widget very much! You make the search more convinient. thank you for the great job!

I really like Wikipedia, but could you please eliminate the ’Edit’ button. We aren’t allowed to use wikipedia for school becuase teachers think information is inaccurate beacuse you can edit it.

Hi!

Sometimes my mac wikipedia dashboard widget does not allow me to see the bottom lines of an article. This flaw only occurs about 1/20th of the times. But once it has occured on one article, it will continue to occur with the next articles. Hope there is something to be done about it! Otherwise the widget is splendid!

Cheers,

Gustav

Thanks,

Great Widget.

One problem i’m experiencing with it. It keeps saying update avaliable and when I download the "new" one it’ll come up again after a couple of days. Yet the website it directs me to still says last updated last year. It’s not that big of a deal though.

Thanks.

You could also have other links that lead to other website about the topic looked up. This is what I think could help your Wikipedia Widget

Yasir Said April 24, 2007 5:05pm

Hi, i absolutley love your wikipedia dashboard widget and it is the most useful widget i have - its so helpful for quick searches for the tons of stuff i have to look up in medicine. I was just wondering if this would be a possible feature request - tabbed pages - while navigating through wikipedia there are some wikis that i would like open in the widget that are too distant from each other to access via the arrows and i was wondering if this was a possibility, thanks for reading anyway and my email is yasir.said06 at imperial.ac.uk thank you very much

Steve April 21, 2007 11:57am

AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!! I use it all the time your wikipedia widget :)

Vaishak Belle April 18, 2007 9:58am

Have you guys considered making something like this for google/yahoo ? Would be cool ... and I don’t think it is too difficult given your current code base.

Vaishak Belle April 18, 2007 9:56am

This is a brilliant widget - good for research, quick in its rendering, option to open in browser, resizable, colorful :D .. great work.

Achilles Exlander April 17, 2007 11:59pm

can you not make this widget a little bit bigger?

David A April 15, 2007 1:04pm

Im an idiot, you guys are smarter than me and already did this, yay to you, boo to me. Hooray to the widget.

David A April 15, 2007 1:02pm

The wikipedia widget needs a button to open a browser page that contains the wikipedia search you have performed in the widget. Then the wikipedia widget would act as a search engine or quick reference, but if you want to fully explore the topic you can open the browser with one click taking you to the search you have performed in the widget.

Ben April 15, 2007 10:51am

This is cool and helpful and all, but it needs to be smaller when it gives you the info, it takes up to much space on my dashboard

Phil Van Houten April 15, 2007 4:09am

It would be great if this widget kept its user-defined horizontal size, like the Apple Dictionary Widget.

Otherwise, thanks for a great widget.

Zachary Jones April 9, 2007 11:04pm

There’s any annoying bug; it seems like the roll-over text for a graphic on the loaded wiki page will overwrite into whatever space other browsers (like Omniweb and Safari) use sometimes for their graphics

Camille April 9, 2007 3:55pm

You know about those links to Wiktionary that say "Wiktionary has an article about (fill in the blank)?" Well, I don’t know if this is possible, and it likely isn’t, but maybe if the Wikipedia widget could detect if you have the Wikitionary widget open when you click on those kinds of links, and if it is, Wikitionary opens the link.

Peter Atwood April 6, 2007 1:06pm

It would be great to have a little icon at the bottom that launches the current Wikipedia entry in my default browser.

I’ve noticed that it doesn’t shrink to the size of the backside before flipping as you said it did in the discription of the new (using 0.9.1, it isn’t telling me to update anymore so I assume it is current,) version. I have noticed it will scale up before flipping, just not down.
