Why donate?

First off, let me say that I'm not at risk of starvation.

However, countless late-night hours have been spent developing the widget, and it is nice to feel appreciated once in a while ;)

A bit of data for the curious (current as of March 10, 2007):

The Wikipedia widget has been downloaded around 1,150,000 times. It is currently open on about 165,000 dashboards (I'm not spying on you – the widget checks for updates once a day and I simply counted those checks). I've recieved US$314.36 in paypal donations thus far, ranging from $1 to $25 each, with the first arriving on April 29, 2005. I've also received a $25 iTunes gift certificate and a water-filter adapter for my Camelbak. Counting the value of those items, that averages out to about $0.50 per day, $0.002 per current user, or $0.0003 per download.

About myself: I recently left my day job in Duluth, MN and am currently studying mathematics at the University of Otago in Dunedin, New Zealand.
